Beware of scams Model Management wants to protect its readers / users from the scams that are often associated with the Modeling Industry. NO ONE SHOULD BE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR DREAMS! We invite you to share your experiences of getting ripped off by a modeling school, model agency, photographers, bogus photographers, competitions organisers, etc. in hopes of preventing others from becoming victims. Please e-mail us at modelm@iafrica.com with your horror stories or praises. The following are claims submitted by our readers and do not necessarily reflect the views or opinions of Model Management and www.modelmanagement.co.za Pay no attention to classified ads in newspapers or magazines! Reputable agencies do not normally advertise in the classifieds. Ads that say "Models needed immediately! No experience necessary", will not have you working immediately. Instead you will be expected to do their "course" and pay for that! They will be working immediately! Not you! They will make money! Not you! If a school or agency tells you that you will be working immediately and that you will be a star, be wary. Very wary! Such promises are unrealistic and reputable agencies and modeling schools do not say such things! Reputable agencies will not insist that you use "their" photographers because he/she "is the best". A reputable agency will recommend a few photographers and will let you meet with them to look at their portfolio's. After meeting a few, pick the one that has a style that you like. Do not spend money on a portfolio before you decide on an agency. The agency may have a completely different idea of how they want to market you and you could have wasted your money on picture's you can't use. No agency should ask for a registration fee or monthly payments. An agency makes their money by finding you work & taking commission from all jobs they find you. |
